High-Temperature Armoured Tow Cable selection overview

The High-Temperature Armoured Tow Cable gives high-temperature instrument, test-equipment and marine-system manufacturers one clear route for comparing 2 available constructions. It is designed to compare single-core and multicore constructions for elevated-temperature instrument and towing duties. Keeping the options in one product group makes it easier to compare signal architecture, conductor or fibre content, armour, diameter, mechanical load and bend geometry without switching between separate product pages.

Selection starts with the equipment interface: define voltage and current, signal type and frequency, coaxial impedance and allowable attenuation, or fibre type, count and wavelength as applicable. Then define whether the cable will be static, suspended, reeled, towed or repeatedly deployed. Cable length, working load, breaking-load criterion, drum and sheave dimensions, temperature, water environment, abrasion, buoyancy and the connector or moulded termination must be reviewed as one system.

  • Compare: construction, transmission values, outside diameter, load and bend data shown for each option.
  • Confirm: the complete service combination and the operating values that apply at the required cable length.
  • Specify: inspection stages, test methods, acceptance values, marking and documentation in the quotation.

Construction

High-Temperature Armoured Tow Cable construction options

Compare the complete layer sequence for each option. Conductor or fibre elements, insulation, screening, fillers, bedding, strength members, armour and outer sheath are selected together to suit the transmission and deployment duty.
ConfigurationConstruction
Single-core 14 AWG high-temperature tow configuration1 × 14 AWG copper; XLPE; two preformed galvanized steel armour layers
Four-core 24 AWG high-temperature tow configuration4 × 24 AWG copper; ETFE; PET-E sheath; two preformed galvanized steel armour layers

Construction selection

Armour material and lay, sheath material, waterblocking, screening and fibre protection are matched to corrosion exposure, abrasion, repeated bending, handling load and termination design. The armour anchoring and connector or moulded transition are reviewed with the cable because they control how load and water sealing are transferred into the equipment.
Applications

Applications for High-Temperature Armoured Tow Cable

This product group supports high-temperature instrument, test-equipment and marine-system manufacturers where transmission performance and mechanical deployment duty must be selected together.
  • Elevated-temperature instruments and test equipment requiring a load-bearing single-core or multicore electrical route.
  • Towed or repeatedly deployed equipment only after the chosen insulation, sheath, armour and bend limits are reviewed as a complete construction.
  • Do not transfer the higher temperature boundary of one configuration to another configuration.

Information needed for selection

Provide the equipment, cable length, service voltages or signals, load criterion, winch and sheave dimensions, deployment method, water environment, temperature, buoyancy target, connector or moulding interface and required inspection documents.
Specifications

High-Temperature Armoured Tow Cable specifications

Use the stated values to compare complete configuration options. Empty properties are omitted instead of being estimated, and each numerical value stays with the construction under which it is listed.

Single-core 14 AWG high-temperature tow configuration

Construction1 × 14 AWG copper; XLPE; two preformed galvanized steel armour layers
Voltage / test value2000 V
Outside diameter9.50 mm
Breaking load65 kN
Working load16 kN
Dynamic bend radius255 mm
Temperature-40 to +105°C

Four-core 24 AWG high-temperature tow configuration

Construction4 × 24 AWG copper; ETFE; PET-E sheath; two preformed galvanized steel armour layers
Voltage / test value400 Vdc
Outside diameter4.75 mm
Breaking load13.1 kN
Working load3.3 kN
Dynamic bend radius118 mm
Temperature-40 to +150°C

Using the values

Breaking load is not the normal operating load. Bend values must match drums, sheaves, guides and connector exits. A voltage entry that includes a duration is a dielectric test value rather than a continuous rated voltage. Confirm the applicable operating and acceptance values in the quotation.
Standards

Standards and test references

The applicable references are selected for the confirmed cable construction and project duty. They provide a framework for engineering and inspection rather than a one-size-fits-all cable designation.
  • IEC 60228: Conductor resistance and conductor-class reference for insulated power, control and instrumentation cores.
  • IEC 60811 series: Test methods for non-metallic cable insulation and sheathing materials, where the selected material system is in scope.
  • Project test plan: Defines continuity, conductor resistance, insulation or dielectric tests, tensile load, bend method, temperature conditioning, water exposure and termination checks.
Final test conditions, sample lengths, conditioning, acceptance values, marking and report format are defined in the quotation and inspection plan.
