Product overview

Type P VFD cable 2 kV for variable-frequency AC motor drives in marine, offshore, drilling and industrial systems. The current reference covers 1/0 AWG to 777 MCM in a shielded three-conductor, unarmoured construction. It uses flexible stranded tinned copper, Type P XLPO insulation, an overall shield and a flame-retardant thermosetting CPE jacket. The 125°C continuous conductor reference, oil/abrasion/moisture/sunlight resistance and cold-bend references support harsh fixed routes.

The overall shield is intended to reduce high-frequency harmonics and electromagnetic interference between the drive, motor and adjacent equipment. Confirm the shield coverage, ground-conductor arrangement, bonding ends, system voltage, motor length, switching frequency, EMC limits, ampacity and termination kit with the drive manufacturer and project engineer. A 2 kV Type P VFD cable is not a 5–15 kV medium-voltage cable; use the dedicated Type P MV page for that requirement. Drive supplier coordination is required for final selection.

For procurement, provide drive rating, motor current, conductor size, route, ambient temperature, hazardous-area classification, armor need, fire/mud requirement and required certificates. Compare the Type P 1C power cable, Type P 5C power cable and the Oil & Gas Cables range.

Applications

Applications

  • Variable-frequency AC motor drives on offshore platforms, drilling rigs and marine vessels.
  • Drive-to-motor routes where high-frequency EMI and harmonic control are part of the cable design.
  • Fixed, protected routes in oil and gas modules and industrial equipment.
  • Unarmoured installations where mechanical protection, bonding and separation are engineered.

Drive-system note: confirm system grounding, shield bonding, cable length, switching frequency, motor insulation and EMC limits with the drive supplier. Do not select by voltage alone.

Standards

Standards

  • IEEE 1580 and IEEE 45 Type P marine/offshore design references.
  • UL 1309 and applicable CSA marine cable references for the ordered construction.
  • UL 1277 Type TC-ER reference where an exposed run is specifically approved.
  • IEEE 1202 and IEC 60332-3-22 Category A flame-propagation references where specified.

Request the model-specific VFD shield, ground, EMC, fire, classification and inspection documents in the RFQ. Standards references are not a blanket approval claim.
