230 V Self-Regulating Pipe and Tank Heat Trace Cable, 10–40 W/m

230 V self-regulating pipe and tank heat trace for freeze protection and process temperature maintenance, with five output choices from 10 to 40 W/m at 10°C.

Product information
Product overview

This 230 V self-regulating pipe heat trace cable is for freeze protection and process temperature maintenance on pipes and tanks. The five reference outputs—10, 15, 25, 30 and 40 W/m—are measured at a pipe temperature of 10°C. Output changes with pipe temperature, so the 10°C value is a selection reference rather than a constant power draw at every operating point. Select the output only after calculating heat loss for the pipe or vessel, thermal insulation and lowest expected ambient conditions.

The construction uses copper conductors, a self-regulating conductive core, modified-polyolefin insulation, a copper screen and a modified-polyolefin outer sheath. The reference rating allows installation down to −55°C, a maximum continuous pipe temperature of 65°C while powered, 80°C exposure while unpowered and a minimum bend radius of 25 mm. The two temperature figures answer different questions: the powered limit governs normal operation; the unpowered limit governs an exposure condition when the circuit is off.

This construction is suitable for mild inorganic exposure according to the source, but it is not the option to select for steam washing or continuous contact with strong corrosive or organic acids. A fluoropolymer-jacketed alternative addresses a different jacket requirement, while a higher-temperature design serves warmer process lines. For a quotation, supply the pipe diameter and material, insulation thickness, maintenance target, ambient minimum, available voltage, circuit length and chemical environment so the output and circuit protection can be sized together.

Compare related constructions: high-temperature cable range; the screened heating-circuit supply cable serves a different role from the heat-generating trace attached to a pipe.

Construction

From the heating core outward, the reference build comprises copper bus conductors, a self-regulating conductive core, modified-polyolefin electrical insulation, a copper screen and a modified-polyolefin outer sheath. The self-regulating core changes local power as the tracked surface warms; it does not remove the need to calculate heat loss or design the protective circuit.

  • Conductors: copper; size and plating not stated.
  • Insulation and outer sheath: modified polyolefin.
  • Metallic layer: copper screen.
  • Minimum bend radius: 25 mm.

Dimensions, weight and screen resistance are not provided in the reference PDF.

Applications

Use this family for pipe or tank freeze protection and process temperature maintenance up to the documented temperature limit. The source lists steel, painted steel, stainless steel and plastic as tracked surfaces and describes suitability for mild inorganic solutions.

  • Select the 10–40 W/m option from the pipe/tank heat-loss calculation at the required design conditions.
  • Check whether the line can exceed 65°C with the cable energized or 80°C with it de-energized.
  • Choose a different construction for steam washing, strong corrosive exposure or higher process temperatures.

Specify insulation, pipe diameter, start-up temperature, available breaker and connection layout before finalizing a circuit length.

The source includes maximum circuit-length values for specific start temperatures and C-curve protective-device ratings. They are installation-design values, not fixed cable lengths; the final layout must use the ordered cable and protective-device data.

Standards

For a project that requires classified-area electrical heat tracing, EN IEC 60079-0:2018 and EN IEC 60079-30-1:2017 are cited as reference editions in the technical source. Specify the required jurisdiction, area classification, cable marking and protection scheme with the order. The exact ordered cable and connection system need their own approval documentation before use in a classified area.
