Product overview

5G 35 mm2 RFOU cable for NEK 606 marine and offshore projects, with one product page covering the supplied power and instrumentation variants. The current 5-core product data identifies a 0.6/1 (1.2) kV cable for fixed power and lighting routes. The same RFOU family also covers 150/250 V RFOU(i) individually screened instrumentation cable and 250 V RFOU(c) collectively screened instrumentation cable, including the S2/S6 designation used in project specifications.

Use the power construction when the equipment needs a halogen-free, flame-retardant offshore cable for fixed power, control or lighting. Select RFOU(i) for individually screened pairs or triples, or RFOU(c) when a collective screen is the required signal architecture. NEK 606 terminology, screen arrangement, sheath compound, core count, size and bending radius must match the project data sheet. The 5G 35 mm2 listing is the reference configuration; other sizes and instrumentation pair/triple builds are quoted to order.

For a quotation, send the voltage, core or pair/triple count, conductor area, screen code, sheath colour, route, minimum temperature, bending requirement and any fire, mud, oil or classification evidence required by the project. See the Marine & Offshore Cables range, the NEK 606 BFOU P105 cable and the NEK 606 UX earth cable for adjacent selections.

Construction

Construction

The exact construction follows the ordered NEK 606 code and size. The current 5G reference is documented as tinned copper conductors, EPR insulation, a halogen-free inner covering, tinned copper wire braid (TCWB) and a black SHF2/EVA outer sheath. The family mapping below keeps power, individually screened and collectively screened builds distinct.

VariantTypical construction / screenProcurement check
RFOU powerTinned stranded copper, EPR insulation, halogen-free bedding, TCWB braid and SHF2 or SHF MUD outer sheath.Confirm P-code, conductor class, sheath compound and size.
RFOU(i)Individually screened pairs/triples with numbered identification, halogen-free bedding, TCWB braid and SHF2 outer sheath.Confirm pair/triple count, screen/drain arrangement and colour.
RFOU(c)Collectively screened pairs/triples with copper-backed tape and drain wire, TCWB braid and SHF2/SHF MUD outer sheath.Confirm S2/S6 or current project code and EMC requirement.
5G 35 mm2 referenceFive-core power cable; the page data lists an earth core, EPR insulation and black TCWB-protected sheath.Confirm final drawing, marking and termination details before order.
Applications

Applications

  • Fixed power and lighting circuits on ships, offshore platforms and marine modules.
  • Fixed control, alarm, communication and instrumentation routes where the project specifies NEK 606 RFOU.
  • RFOU(i) for individually screened instrumentation pairs/triples when channel separation is required.
  • RFOU(c) S2/S6 for collectively screened instrumentation, control and alarm circuits.
  • Routes exposed to saline atmosphere, oils or drilling/cleaning fluids only when the ordered sheath code and project evidence cover that exposure.

Installation boundary: these are fixed-installation selections. Do not substitute them for continuous reeling, festoon, trailing, dynamic or permanent subsea cable without a separate engineering review. Confirm hazardous-area, fire-integrity, earthing, EMC and classification requirements with the project owner.

Specifications

Specifications

Values marked as the 5G reference are the current product listing. Instrumentation values describe the NEK 606 family and must be confirmed against the ordered pair/triple datasheet.

SelectionVoltage / temperatureKey data
5G 35 mm2 RFOU power reference0.6/1 (1.2) kV; fixed installation data lists -40°C to +90°C.5 cores x 35 mm2; 3.5 kV AC test for 5 minutes; approx. 34.8 mm OD; approx. 0.529 ohm/km at 20°C; approx. 2,820 kg/km.
RFOU(i) S101 family150/250 V; max. conductor temperature commonly specified as +90°C.Individually screened pairs/triples; fixed installation; confirm conductor area and minimum bend radius (often 6 x OD in supplier data).
RFOU(c) S2/S6 / S102 family150/250 V or 250 V project notation; max. conductor temperature commonly specified as +90°C.Collectively screened pairs/triples; confirm screen, drain, sheath code, colour and minimum bend radius.

Ordering note: overall diameter, weight, resistance, capacitance, inductance, current rating and bend radius vary by core/pair/triple size. Request the approved size datasheet rather than estimating from the 5G reference.

Standards

Standards

NEK 606 / NEK TS 606 is the offshore cable design framework used for the RFOU power and instrumentation designations. The applicable edition, code and test scope must be stated on the project purchase specification.
