Type P Control Cable 600V / 0.6/1kV 18 AWG Armored and Sheathed
Type P Control Cable 600V / 0.6/1kV 18 AWG Armored and Sheathed: procurement-ready Type P construction and project-selection data. Confirm size, voltage, screening, armor, route and certification requirements at RFQ.
Type P control cable 18 AWG is a Type P offshore cable selection for marine and drilling control circuits, with a 600 V or 0.6/1 kV rating and a multi-conductor, armored and sheathed construction. The current reference configuration uses soft annealed stranded tinned copper, chemically cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO) insulation, a flame-retardant thermosetting CPE jacket and braided bronze armor. Its 125°C continuous conductor temperature, oil/abrasion/moisture/sunlight resistance and cold-bend reference to -40°C support engineering review for harsh routes.
Use this page when the cable schedule calls for Type P control, auxiliary, signal or low-power instrumentation wiring with mechanical protection. Confirm the number of cores, conductor class, screen or drain-wire arrangement, armor bonding, gland system, minimum bend radius and final ampacity before release. The 18 AWG listing is a reference configuration; project-specific core counts and jacket options are quoted to order. Use the approved cable schedule to verify each termination and route.
For procurement, send voltage, core count, route, temperature, hazardous-area classification, fire test, mud/oil exposure and required certificates. Compare the Oil & Gas Cables range, the Type P 1C power cable and the Type P VFD cable before submitting an RFQ.
Construction
The reference build is a flexible multi-conductor Type P cable with mechanical protection. Final core count, colour code, armour coverage and sheath compound follow the approved project datasheet.
| Element | Reference construction | Buyer check |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor | Soft annealed stranded tinned copper; high-strand-count flexibility is available by design. | Confirm conductor class, stranding and core identification. |
| Insulation | Chemically cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO), Type P marine/offshore insulation system. | Confirm voltage level and insulation thickness. |
| Jacket | Flame-retardant thermosetting CPE; project jacket options are reviewed at RFQ. | State oil, mud, sunlight and temperature exposure. |
| Armor / sheath | Braided bronze armor with an outer sheath for the armored and sheathed configuration. | Confirm braid material, bonding and gland compatibility. |
Applications
- Control and auxiliary circuits on offshore platforms, MODUs, drilling rigs and marine vessels.
- Fixed equipment, module and cable-tray routes in oil and gas facilities.
- Signal or low-power instrumentation circuits where the approved schedule calls for Type P control cable.
- Routes exposed to oil, abrasion, moisture, vibration or sunlight when the selected jacket evidence covers the exposure.
Installation boundary: armored Type P cable is not automatically a fire-resistant, mud-resistant or hazardous-area approval. Confirm the required classification, fire-integrity test, bonding method and installation standard in the RFQ.
Specifications

Standards
Use the standards named in the approved purchase specification and request model-specific evidence. The current Type P reference data identifies the following design and test references:
- IEEE 1580 and IEEE 45 marine shipboard cable references.
- UL 1309 marine shipboard cable reference and applicable CSA marine cable references.
- IEEE 1202 and IEC 60332-3-22 Category A flame-propagation references where required.
- IEC 60092 and ASTM B33 references may be specified for international marine projects.
Standards listed here are selection references, not a blanket approval claim. List the required certificate, classification society, fire test, hazardous-area and inspection documents in the RFQ.
