Product overview

Type P signal cable 600 V for marine, offshore and drilling signal or instrumentation circuits. This OS reference covers 20, 18 and 16 AWG multi-conductor options with an overall shield and an unarmoured construction. The cable uses soft annealed stranded tinned copper, Type P XLPO insulation and a flame-retardant thermosetting CPE jacket. The current product data references 125°C continuous conductor operation, oil/abrasion/moisture/sunlight resistance and cold-bend performance for demanding fixed routes.

An overall shield is selected when the project needs a common EMC barrier around the cabled signal group. It is not the same as individually screened pairs: use the Type P Signal I/O pages when pair-by-pair isolation or an armored sheath is required. Confirm pair/triple layout, drain-wire termination, shield bonding, circuit segregation, core identification, capacitance and maximum loop length with the instrumentation engineer. Signal performance depends on loop length and screen bonding.

For an RFQ, state voltage, AWG, core or pair count, shield coverage, hazardous-area requirements, route, ambient temperature, bend radius and required certificates. Compare the Type P Signal I/O unarmoured cable, armored I/O cable and the Oil & Gas Cables range.

Applications

Applications

  • Overall-shielded signal and instrumentation circuits on drilling rigs and offshore production units.
  • Marine vessel monitoring, alarm and auxiliary signal routes.
  • Fixed cable-tray or protected conduit installations where an unarmoured construction is approved.
  • EMC-sensitive control systems requiring a common overall shield around the cable group.

Shielding note: the shield termination and bonding method are installation-specific. Confirm intrinsic-safety segregation, hazardous-area design, grounding and separation from VFD/power circuits with the project engineer.

Standards

Standards

  • IEEE 1580 and IEEE 45 Type P marine/offshore cable references.
  • UL 1309 and applicable CSA marine cable references for the ordered construction.
  • IEEE 1202 and IEC 60332-3-22 Category A flame-propagation references where specified.
  • IEC 60092 references may be included for shipboard and offshore project schedules.

Confirm model-specific shield, fire, classification and hazardous-area documentation at RFQ. The standards list is a selection aid, not a blanket approval statement.
