UL 3074 wire selection

UL 3074 is a UL-certified 12 AWG silicone lead wire rated 200°C and 600 V AC. A fiberglass braid covers the silicone insulation, making the outer covering part of the specified construction for internal equipment connections.

The dimensioned configuration uses 19 strands of tinned copper, a nominal 0.031 in silicone wall and a finished diameter of 0.163 in. Its listed bend radius is 1.30 in. Use these values together when checking a terminal enclosure: the AWG identifies the conductor size, while the finished diameter and bend allowance determine whether the covered lead can follow the intended route.

This style is particularly relevant when replacing a 12 AWG braided silicone lead in appliance or electrical equipment. The braid and its finish affect stripping and the arrangement at the terminal, so a bare silicone wire with the same voltage rating is not automatically an equivalent assembly choice. Support the lead along the equipment route and avoid pulling the braid back while preparing the connection.

Applications

UL 3074 is used for internal wiring in appliances and electrical equipment, including high-temperature lead connections. Check the braid termination, routing clearance and local temperature at the connection.

Selecting the specified construction

Order UL 3074 12 AWG with the specified stranding, silicone wall and fiberglass covering. For another conductor size, identify the appropriate AWM style instead of extending the 12 AWG table.

The listed 12 AWG construction has a reference ampacity of 68 A for one conductor in free air at 40°C ambient. This is not a general equipment ampacity; the operating current must be assessed for the actual route, ambient, grouping and terminals.
