Project-specific railway, vehicle, rolling-stock or national approvals should be confirmed with the final quotation and documents. The table below supports conductor size selection, cable-entry checks, routing space and current comparison. Final current capacity should be verified against installation method, grouping, ambient temperature and project standard. Select the conductor size from load current, voltage drop, short-circuit requirement, routing space and termination hardware. The supplied table gives maximum current load in air, but the actual rating can change with grouping, enclosure temperature, cable tray arrangement and vehicle installation conditions. For railway and vehicle projects, confirm whether the listed standards are sufficient for the project or whether additional rolling-stock fire, smoke, toxicity, vibration or national approvals are required. Do not treat a material standard as a complete vehicle approval. Check bending radius during design. Use 6 × D for fixed or fast-make routes and 10 × D for flexible makes. Tight bends around equipment frames, cable ducts or gland plates can reduce service life even when the electrical rating is correct. If the cable is used for distribution up to 1 kV, verify the installation protection, earthing arrangement, conductor color/marking requirements and the interaction with adjacent cables. The source record places this product in industrial cables. Before ordering, confirm the exact product variant, conductor or core arrangement, system rating, route conditions, equipment connection and required documentation against the project specification.

Selection Notes for Buyers
NSHXAFÖ is a single-core product, so phase grouping and magnetic effects should be considered for high-current routes.
Selection checks
Confirm the equipment interface, installation method, route length, movement or flexing duty, environmental exposure, conductor or core requirements and project documentation before final selection.

Reference family and where this cable sits in it
This designation is the halogen-free, unscreened member of a four-part family issued to DIN VDE 0250 Parts 602 and 606. The HM3 sheath is what gives this build its 6 × D bending radius and its low smoke behaviour, and it is also why the nominal fire load is published for this member and not for the chlorinated-rubber one.
| Designation | Sheath compound | Rated voltages | Screen | Minimum bending radius |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NSGAFÖU | 5GM3 chlorinated rubber, oil resistant, self-extinguishing | 1.8/3 kV and 3.6/6 kV | None | 4 × D |
| NSHXAFÖ | HM3 halogen-free polymer, oil resistant, self-extinguishing, low smoke | 1.8/3 kV and 3.6/6 kV | None | 6 × D |
| NSGAFCMOEU | 5GM3 chlorinated rubber | 3.6/6 kV | CMOE, helix of tinned copper wires | 4 × D |
| NSHXAFCMOE | HM3 halogen-free | 3.6/6 kV | CMOE, helix of tinned copper wires | 6 × D |
The bending radius is set by the sheath compound, not by the voltage or the screen: the chlorinated-rubber builds are 4 × D and the halogen-free builds 6 × D. An inner semi-conducting layer is present on the 6 kV types. All four share a flexible tinned copper conductor of class 5 and 3GI3 EPR-based insulation, with a black sheath.
Surface temperature, fixed against flexing
The two limits are not the same number, and a cable rated for −40 °C in a fixed installation is not rated for −40 °C while it is being moved.
| Fixed installation | −40 °C to +80 °C |
|---|---|
| Flexing | −25 °C to +80 °C |
The 90 °C figure quoted for this family is the maximum conductor temperature and is a different quantity from the surface temperature above. State the lowest expected temperature and whether the run is fixed or flexed with the enquiry.
Reference size and voltage ranges
The reference catalogue runs wider than a single voltage. State the voltage with the size, because the insulation wall and therefore the overall diameter change between them.
| Build | Reference range |
|---|---|
| 1.8/3 kV, unscreened | 1.5 mm² to 300 mm² |
| 3.6/6 kV, unscreened | 1.5 mm² to 185 mm² |
| 3.6/6 kV, CMOE screened | 185 mm² only, which is the maximum cross-section DIN VDE 0250 Part 602 sets for this voltage class |
Nominal fire load, halogen-free builds
The nominal fire load applies to the halogen-free HM3 builds, NSHXAFÖ and NSHXAFCMOE, and is the figure rail and tunnel projects ask for when totalling the fire load of a cable route.
| Build | Nominal fire load |
|---|---|
| 1.8/3 kV halogen-free | 0.20 kWh/m at 1.5 mm², rising to 2.62 kWh/m at 300 mm² |
| 3.6/6 kV halogen-free | 0.45 kWh/m at 1.5 mm², rising to 2.42 kWh/m at 185 mm² |
| 3.6/6 kV CMOE screened halogen-free | 4.58 kWh/m at 185 mm² |
Sustained current loading in the reference data is stated at a 30 °C ambient with the cable free in air, as in DIN VDE 0298 Part 4 Table 11, and must be corrected for the installed condition.
The dimensional table published above for this cable is the supplied build, with its own diameters, weights and article numbers. The reference ranges in this section are catalogue figures for the designation family: where a size above the tabulated range or the 3.6/6 kV voltage class is needed, state it with the enquiry rather than interpolating from the table.
Where the family is used
The reference application is fixed installation in trucks and buses, in conduits and closed installation systems, and the connection of mobile parts. The 3 kV types are additionally used inside low-voltage switchboards to secure internal interconnections against short circuit and earth connection. The CMOE screened builds are the ones designed for higher mechanical stressing, typically as the connection element for heating circuits.
For the chlorinated-rubber equivalent see NSGAFÖU single-core rubber cable. For the CMOE screened build used on heating circuits see NSGAFCMOEU screened heating circuit cable, and for the small-section 2/3.6 kV vehicle interconnection cable see CGAU single-core vehicle cable.
NSHXAFÖ 1.8/3kV Halogen-Free Rubber Cable standards and compliance
The following standard references are carried over from the original product record. They identify the source basis and do not replace project-specific certification or inspection requirements.
- The supplied construction uses an IEC 60228 Class 5 multi-stranded annealed copper conductor, extruded 3GI3 rubber insulation and an HM3 halogen-free rubber outer sheath according to DIN VDE 0207 Part 24. This makes the cable relevant where installers need a flexible single-core cable with fire-performance and smoke-material references rather than a standard PVC-insulated wire.
- Fire and smoke references: IEC 60332-1-2, EN 50267-1 and IEC 61034-1-2 are listed in the supplied data, covering single-cable flame propagation, halogen-free material and smoke density references.
