VBbShvng(A)-LS GOST 31996 Steel-Tape Armoured Underground Mine Power Cable
Fixed-installation power cable for underground mine roadways, substations, pump chambers and inclined drifts, designed to GOST 31996: VBbShvng(A)-LS (ВБбШвнг(А)-LS) with copper conductors, PVC insulation, two galvanized steel armour tapes and a low-smoke, reduced-flammability PVC sheath in the нг(А)-LS fire class of GOST 31565. 0.66 kV and 1 kV in 3, 4 and 5-core and 3+1 / 3+2 reduced-neutral layouts.
Underground mine substations, pump chambers, conveyor drive houses, workshops and roadway distribution boards need fixed power cable that resists rock fall, crushing and fire spread for years after installation. Mines and plants in Russia, Kazakhstan, Central Asia and other GOST-standard projects specify this duty as VBbShvng(A)-LS (ВБбШвнг(А)-LS), the copper, PVC-insulated, steel-tape armoured cable of GOST 31996 at 0.66 kV and 1 kV.
The designation describes the construction: PVC insulation (V), armour of two galvanized steel tapes (Bb), an extruded PVC hose sheath (Shv) and a low-smoke, reduced-flammability compound in the нг(А)-LS class of GOST 31565, which limits flame spread along bunched cable runs and reduces smoke in confined workings. TEBAOFLEX builds it in equal-core 3, 4 and 5-core versions for 0.66 kV circuits and in 3+1 and 3+2 reduced-neutral layouts up to 3×185+1×95 mm2 for 1 kV distribution.
Steel tape armour gives crush and impact protection but carries no useful tensile load. VBbShvng(A)-LS is therefore laid on cable trays, brackets or hangers and clamped at the intervals required by the mine installation rules; it is not a suspended vertical-shaft cable. For vertical borehole or shaft drops that must carry their own weight, use our self-supporting steel wire armoured borehole cable. Admission for use in gassy coal mines follows the destination mine rules and is confirmed per project.

VBbShvng(A)-LS 0.66 kV and 1 kV Cable Construction & Armour Structure
The representative horizontal sample shows a VBbShvng(A)-LS 1 kV 3x95+1x50 mm2 cable: three copper phase conductors and one reduced neutral conductor with coloured PVC insulation, an extruded PVC inner bedding, two helically applied galvanized steel tapes and a black low-smoke, reduced-flammability PVC outer hose sheath.

| Component | Material and construction |
|---|---|
| Copper Conductors | Class 1 or Class 2 round or sector-shaped copper conductors to GOST 22483 (IEC 60228), 10 mm2 to 185 mm2 phase cores in the layouts shown, with reduced neutral or protective cores on 3+1 and 3+2 designs. |
| PVC Insulation | Reduced-flammability PVC compound insulation with colour identification of phase, neutral and protective cores. |
| Core Lay-Up and Fillers | Cores laid up with non-hygroscopic fillers where needed to give a round core assembly. |
| Extruded PVC Inner Bedding | Low-smoke, reduced-flammability PVC inner covering forming a round bed for the armour tapes. |
| Galvanized Steel Tape Armour | Two helically applied galvanized steel tapes with gap overlap for crush and impact protection; the tapes are not designed to carry suspension load. |
| нг(А)-LS PVC Outer Hose Sheath | Black low-smoke, reduced-flammability PVC hose sheath in the нг(А)-LS class of GOST 31565, with surface marking of designation and size. |
VBbShvng(A)-LS Type Designation Breakdown
- V (first В): PVC core insulation (absence of a leading A indicates copper conductors)
- Bb (Бб): armour of two helically applied galvanized steel tapes over an extruded PVC inner bedding
- Shv (Шв): extruded PVC outer hose sheath (выпрессованный ПВХ шланг)
- ng (нг): reduced flame spread in bunched cable runs
- (A) ((А)): Category A bunched vertical flame test to IEC 60332-3-22 / GOST 31565-2012
- -LS: low smoke and gas emission under fire conditions in the нг(А)-LS class of GOST 31565-2012
VBbShvng(A)-LS Fixed Mine Roadway & Substation Feeder Applications
Specify VBbShvng(A)-LS for fixed routes where the cable is laid on trays or brackets and clamped along its length, not hung free.

- Underground substations, distribution chambers and main pump chambers at 0.66 kV and 1 kV where bunched cables must meet the нг(А)-LS fire class.
- Fixed distribution along horizontal roadways and inclined drifts on cable trays, brackets or hangers, clamped at the spacing set by the mine installation rules.
- Conveyor drive houses, underground workshops and surface plant buildings at GOST-standard metal, potash and coal mines.
- Feeders between surface substations and portal or adit distribution where a steel-armoured, low-smoke fixed cable is specified.
VBbShvng(A)-LS vs Borehole & Shaft Armoured Drop Cable Selection Boundary
| Model | Voltage & Insulation | Armour & Tensile Capability | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| VBbShvng(A)-LS (this page) | 0.66 kV (3–5 core) & 1 kV (3+1 / 3+2), PVC | Double steel tape (Bb), no suspension load | Fixed, clamped mine roadways, chambers, substations and drifts |
| Borehole & Shaft Armoured Cable | 0.6/1 kV to MV, XLPE or EPR | Galvanized steel wire armour (SWA / DWA) | Self-supporting vertical borehole and mine shaft drops |
| CSA TECK90 / HVTECK | 600 V to 5 kV+, XLPE (CSA C22.2 No. 131) | Interlocked aluminium or steel armour | Canadian-code mine roadways and vertical shaft feeders |
| Fixed PVC / HEPR Armoured Cable | 0.6/1 kV to 3.6/6 kV, PVC or HEPR | SWA or STA options | General IEC / EN fixed underground distribution routes |
Two galvanized steel tapes (Bb) protect against radial crushing and impact on clamped horizontal trays and drifts; for vertical shaft or borehole drops, specify steel-wire-armoured self-supporting cable.

VBbShvng(A)-LS (ВБбШвнг(А)-LS) Frequently Asked Questions
What does the designation VBbShvng(A)-LS (ВБбШвнг(А)-LS) stand for?
V indicates PVC core insulation (with copper conductors, as there is no leading A); Bb indicates armour of two helically applied galvanized steel tapes; Shv indicates an extruded PVC outer hose sheath; and нг(А)-LS denotes Category A reduced flame spread in bunched runs with low smoke and gas emission to GOST 31565-2012.
Which voltage ratings and core layouts are covered on this page?
We supply 0.66 kV equal-core 3, 4 and 5-core constructions (10 mm² to 25 mm²) and 1 kV 3+1 and 3+2 reduced-neutral constructions (35 mm² to 185 mm², such as 3x95+1x50 mm², 3x185+1x95 mm² and 3x150+2x70 mm²) designed to GOST 31996-2012.
Can VBbShvng(A)-LS be hung free in a vertical mine shaft or borehole?
No. Galvanized steel tape armour (Bb) provides radial crush and impact protection on trays, brackets and hangers clamped along roadways, chambers and inclined drifts, but it carries no suspension load. For vertical borehole or shaft drops that must support their own weight, specify our self-supporting steel-wire-armoured (SWA / DWA) borehole and shaft drop cable.
What are the minimum order quantity and manufacturing lead time?
The minimum order quantity (MOQ) is 50 m and the manufacturing lead time is 7 to 45 working days, supplied in drum lengths cut to the route.
