AS/NZS 1972 Type 3 Mining Machine Cable, 1.1/1.1 kV
Type 3 1.1/1.1 kV machine cable connects control boxes, motors and resistor boxes on mining machinery. Four tinned-copper cores use R-S-150 insulation, an overall composite screen and a PVC covering. The complete cable operates up to 90°C; the 150°C allowance applies only to a short uncovered section beside a terminal. MOQ: 50 m; lead time: 7–45 working days.
Type 3 mining machine cable is a 1.1/1.1 kV screened cable for connections where heat concentrates at equipment terminals. It is used around control boxes, motors and resistor boxes on shuttle cars and other mobile haulage machinery. R-S-150 insulation addresses the hot connection area, while an overall tinned-copper and poly-yarn screen sits beneath the PVC outer covering.
The temperature boundary is central to selecting this cable. The complete covered cable has a maximum continuous operating temperature of 90°C. A short section immediately beside the connecting terminal may operate up to 150°C only where the outer covering has been removed. That local allowance does not make the whole cable a 150°C cable, and the termination arrangement still needs to suit the equipment enclosure and connection hardware.
The documented configuration is four 1.5 mm² cores, with flexible tinned conductors and red, black, blue and white core identification. Check the machine circuit, terminal temperature, cable entry and required screened connection before specifying a replacement. This machine-wiring construction has a different purpose from the reel-fed trailing cable supplying the vehicle. Its fixed-bend reference also does not establish a continuous reeling rating.
TEBAOFLEX supplies Type 3 cable from a 50 m minimum order with a lead time of 7–45 working days. Provide the existing marking, required length, terminal arrangement and equipment documentation when requesting a quotation.

Construction
This Type 3 configuration keeps four equal-sized insulated cores in a round assembly, with one overall composite screen and a 5V90 PVC outer covering.
| Component | Material and construction |
|---|---|
| Conductors | Oxygen-free tinned annealed copper, flexible Class 5; reference stranding 30/0.25 mm. |
| Core insulation | R-S-150 heat-resistant insulation. |
| Core identification | Red, black, blue and white. |
| Assembly | Four insulated cores, taped together beneath the overall braid. |
| Overall screen | Tinned annealed copper wire interwoven with high-tensile poly-yarn; minimum braid coverage 90%. |
| Outer covering | 5V90 PVC; the representative sample has a blue covering. |
Applications
Type 3 serves internal or interconnecting machine wiring where local terminal heat and vibration influence cable selection.
- Control-box connections on mobile underground haulage equipment.
- Motor terminal connections where the short uncovered end section needs the documented higher temperature allowance.
- Resistor-box connections on shuttle cars, with the covered route kept within the complete-cable temperature rating.
- Confined equipment wiring routes requiring flexible tinned conductors and an overall screen.
- Assess the gland, screen termination, enclosure and mechanical support as part of the machine connection. A cable designation alone does not establish an approved hazardous-area equipment assembly.
- For a reel-fed or dragged vehicle supply, select a cable with a documented trailing or reeling duty instead of extrapolating the Type 3 fixed-bend value.
For route and construction selection, see mining and tunnelling cable selection.
For a PVC-insulated machine-wiring option, review Type 1 screened machine cable and match its temperature rating to the connection.
Where the equipment specifies EPR insulation and CPE covering, compare Type 2S and Type 2S.3 machine cables by voltage and construction rather than treating the Type numbers as interchangeable.

The 17 A value follows the AS/NZS 3008.1.1:2009 Table 14, Column 12 basis stated with this configuration. It is a reference value, not an unconditional ampacity for every enclosure or route; confirm the applicable installation and thermal conditions.
The reference size table contains only 4×1.5 mm². Other requested constructions require their own dimensional and electrical specification.
Keep the 90°C complete-cable limit separate from the 150°C short uncovered terminal-section allowance. Confirm the exposed length and terminal arrangement against the equipment design.
The 10.6 mm diameter and 118 kg/km mass are nominal configuration references; confirm the ordered cable dimensions for gland and enclosure selection.
