CHKCU Compact Kiosk Substation Cable
The CHKCU family is a single-core screened rubber cable to DS 076-2004, built for the short, tightly routed connections inside compact kiosk substations. Three rated voltages share the construction: 10-CHKCU at 6/10 kV, 22-CHKCU at 12.7/22 kV and 35-CHKCU at 20/35 kV, tested at 17 kV, 29 kV and 50 kV respectively.
The reason these are specified by name rather than as a generic switchgear cable is the combination of 12.7/22 kV system matching with the bending space inside a kiosk enclosure. The permissible bending radius is five times the cable diameter, and ten times below −20 °C, which is what governs whether a run will physically land on its terminal inside the housing.
- Rated voltages: 6/10 kV, 12.7/22 kV and 20/35 kV.
- Construction: single-core, screened, with concentric conductor and chloroprene sheath.
- Bending radius: minimum 5 × D; 10 × D below −20 °C.
- Temperature: −35 °C laying, handling and storage; +90 °C conductor.
The cables suit fixed and flexible installation in networks at these voltages, and are particularly suited to compact kiosk substations. For the German-standard single-core range from 3.6/6 kV to 18/30 kV see NTMCGCWÖU single-core cable, and for 26/45 kV switchgear connection see NTMCWOEU switchgear cable.
CHKCU Cable Construction
Seven-layer single-core screened construction, common to all three voltage ratings. The insulation wall changes with the rating; the layer sequence does not.

CHKCU Applications
CHKCU cables are for fixed and flexible installation in networks rated 10, 22 and 35 kV, and are especially suited to compact kiosk substations where a medium-voltage single core has to be routed and terminated in a confined enclosure.

- Compact kiosk and packaged substations at 10, 22 and 35 kV.
- Connections between ring main units, transformers and switchgear inside the housing.
- Runs where the 5 × D bending radius determines the routing inside the enclosure.
- Installations in cold conditions where the 10 × D limit below −20 °C applies.
Application boundaries
The bending radius is a minimum: 5 × D is the smallest radius the cable may be bent to, and 10 × D applies below −20 °C. Inside a kiosk enclosure that limit, rather than the current rating, usually decides the routing.

22-CHKCU 12.7/22 kV size and electrical table
| Code and cross-section | Outer diameter | Weight | Bending radius | Conductor resistance | Short-circuit current 1 s | Current capacity in air | Copper content |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 22-CHKCU 1 × 35/16 mm² | 31 mm | 1450 kg/km | 155 mm | 0.565 Ω/km | 5.037 kA | 218 A | 560 kg/km |

The notation 1 × 35/16 means a 35 mm² conductor with a 16 mm² concentric conductor. The tabulated bending radius is the 5 × D value for each diameter. The 10-CHKCU 6/10 kV and 35-CHKCU 20/35 kV builds are available to order with a minimum order quantity. Their insulation wall differs from the 12.7/22 kV table above, so their dimensions are quoted per build.
