Product overview

NTSCGECCWOEU Armoured Monitored Mining Cable

NTSCGECCWOEU is a medium-voltage trailing cable to DIN VDE 0250 Part 813 with a monitoring shield and, as its defining feature, a braided armour of galvanised steel wires fitted below the outer sheath. That armour is the difference between this designation and the otherwise similar NTSCGECWOEU: it takes particularly high mechanical loads and at the same time forms an external earthed shield.

The letter sequence matters. NTSCGECCWOEU carries two C positions and is armoured; NTSCGECWOEU has one and is not; NTSCGECECWÖU is a different monitoring construction again. These are separate cables, not spelling variants of each other, and substituting one for another on a transformer feed is a real failure mode.

  • Rated voltage: 3.6/6 kV and 6/10 kV.
  • Armour: braided galvanised steel wires, also acting as an earthed external shield.
  • Bending radius: 4 × D static, 7.5 × D mobile.
  • Monitoring: conductive rubberized textile tape plus a copper-steel spiral shield.

The phase-concentric earth conductor and the common concentric monitoring shield, used with a high-voltage protection circuit, allow the cable to be monitored for insulation faults and for damage from external influences. For the unarmoured build see (N)TSCGECWÖU TBM cable; for the separate-earth monitoring construction see (N)TSCGECECWÖU.

Construction

NTSCGECCWOEU Cable Construction

The layer sequence below is the armoured build. Positions 1 to 11 are shared with the unarmoured construction; position 12, the galvanised steel wire braid, is what makes this NTSCGECCWOEU.

Designation elements

3E denotes the three-part earth arrangement, ST a control core and ÜL the monitoring conductor. A build written 3 × 25 + 3 × 16/3E + 3 × 2.5 ST + ÜL therefore has three 25 mm² phase cores, a 16 mm² earth in three parts, three 2.5 mm² control cores and one monitoring conductor.

Supply form

The cables are supplied in matched lengths, typically 100 m or 200 m, with both ends fitted with terminations adapted to the entry fitting of the high-voltage connection box. Termination type and entry fitting must be stated with the enquiry, since they are made to the box, not to the cable alone.

Applications

NTSCGECCWOEU Applications

NTSCGECCWOEU connects electrical equipment in mines and underground excavations with hazardous environments, under particularly high mechanical loads. The typical case is a high-voltage transformer on an underground mining or tunnelling power line, where the cable must stay live and monitored while equipment is repositioned.

Underground mine power line with a mobile high-voltage transformer connected by the armoured cable
NTSCGECCWOEU connecting a mobile high-voltage transformer underground.
  • High-voltage transformers on underground mine and tunnel power lines.
  • Routes where mechanical protection beyond an unarmoured trailing cable is required.
  • Installations needing an earthed external metallic shield in addition to the monitoring shield.
  • Equipment that must be moved while running, within the stated bending limits.

Application boundaries

The flexibility of the cable allows operating equipment to be moved while running. It is a trailing construction rather than a high-speed reeling cable, and the terminations are built to the high-voltage connection box on the equipment, so the box type and entry fitting are stated with the order.
