Type 245UF cable for longwall shearer cable chains
Type 245UF cable is an ultra-flexible underground mining power cable for longwall shearer cable chains. The 1.1 kV and 3.3 kV versions contain three semiconductive-screened phase cores, three earth conductors and three central extensible pilots in a reinforced round construction.
Flexible tinned-copper conductors, EPR R-EP-90 insulation and an HD-85-PCP sheath form the power-cable assembly. The earth conductors sit between the phase cores, while the three pilots run together through the centre for machine monitoring and control connections. Open-weave textile reinforcement lies beneath the outer sheath.
The UF size schedule covers 50, 70, 95, 120 and 150 mm² phase conductors. Each voltage grade has its own insulation thickness, overall diameter and cable mass. The Specifications section also gives the earth-conductor area, AC resistance, reactance, three-phase voltage drop and capacitance for each size.
These dimensions support cable-chain compartment, gland and termination selection. The UF designation identifies the ultra-flexible longwall cable-chain construction; the complete model, voltage and phase area identify the replacement cable. Three separate pilot conductors accommodate the machine’s monitoring and control circuit arrangement.

Type 245UF cable construction
The three power cores form a triangular assembly. Three semiconductive-covered earth conductors occupy the outer interstices, and three extensible pilot conductors run together at the centre.

| Conductor screen | Semiconductive conductor screen on the 3.3 kV version |
| Insulation | EPR compound, R-EP-90 |
| Insulation screen | Semiconductive elastomer over each phase core |
| Phase identification | Printed core numbers on the black semiconductive insulation screen |
| Earth conductors | Three flexible earth conductors with semiconductive elastomer covering, located in the interstices |
| Pilots | Three extensible pilot conductors at the cable centre |
| Reinforcement | Open-weave textile reinforcement beneath the sheath |
| Outer sheath | Heavy-duty HD-85-PCP elastomer |
Longwall shearer and cable-chain applications
The UF construction serves moving underground connections where a shearer cable chain repeatedly guides the cable through a confined route.

- Longwall shearers: flexible power delivery along the moving machine route.
- Cable-chain installations: a supported cable path with compartment space selected from the size-specific diameter.
- Machine monitoring: three separate central pilots for the equipment control and monitoring arrangement.
Cable-chain and circuit arrangement
The size-specific cable diameter defines the space needed in the chain compartments and entry glands. Three separate pilots connect the monitoring and control circuits, with three earth conductors providing the earthing paths.
Compare the conventional construction in the Type 245 mining cable family. The UF version has its own longwall cable-chain construction and size schedule.
