Type G-CGC 2000V Round Portable Mining Cable
Heavy-duty 2000 V three-conductor Type G-CGC round portable mining power cable designed and manufactured to ICEA S-75-381 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 96 from 1 AWG through 500 kcmil. Features three 90 °C EPR-insulated phase conductors, three symmetrical rope-lay tinned-copper grounding conductors in the outer interstices and a centrally positioned 16 AWG extensible ground-check conductor inside a two-layer reinforced lead-cured CPE jacket.
In conventional Round Type G-GC portable mining cables, two grounding conductors occupy two outer valleys while the insulated ground-check (pilot) wire occupies the third outer valley. Under high current and repeated reeling or bending around sheaves, that asymmetrical geometry induces unbalanced voltages onto the grounding system and subjects the outer ground-check wire to tensile elongation and premature fatigue breakage.
Type G-CGC 2000 V Round Portable Mining Cable solves both engineering problems simultaneously. First, the 16 AWG tinned-copper ground-check conductor is specially stranded for high extensibility, insulated with high-strength polypropylene and placed along the neutral axis in the center interstice between the three phase cores—shedding tensile load and dramatically extending pilot-circuit flex life.
Second, three equal-sized rope-lay-stranded tinned-copper grounding conductors (7 AWG to 2/0 AWG) are positioned symmetrically in the three outer interstices. In a balanced three-phase AC system, this 120-degree symmetrical grounding geometry cancels magnetic coupling so zero induced voltage is produced on the grounding system—making Type G-CGC compatible with both pilot-wire ground relays and wireless (impedance/audio-frequency) ground monitoring systems, as well as a direct drop-in replacement for standard Type G or Type G-GC cables.
Manufactured to ICEA S-75-381 and CAN/CSA C22.2 No. 96 from 1 AWG through 500 kcmil, Type G-CGC combines 90 °C EPR phase insulation (black, white, red) with a reinforced, two-layer, extra-heavy-duty lead-cured Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) jacket engineered to resist severe rock cutting, crushing, abrasion, oil and flame.

Applications
Specify Type G-CGC 2000 V cable for heavy AC mining trailing and feeder duty where pilot-wire breakage or induced ground voltages affect standard Type G-GC cables.

- Heavy AC mining trailing cables on continuous miners, loaders, shuttle cars and mobile feeder-breakers requiring fail-safe ground-check monitoring.
- Mine power systems equipped with wireless ground monitoring relays that require a symmetrical 3-ground geometry with zero induced ground-loop voltage.
- High-current 2000 V portable distribution drops (1 AWG to 500 kcmil, 161 A to 487 A) feeding underground load centers, ventilation fans, crushers and dewatering pumps.
- Direct upgrade replacement for both standard Round Type G-GC (pilot-monitored) and Round Type G (unmonitored 3- or 4-ground) portable cables.

All dimensions and weights are nominal and subject to standard industry tolerances; ampacities are based on 90 °C conductor temperature and 40 °C ambient air per ICEA S-75-381 / NEMA WC 58.
Because the three grounding conductors are symmetrical and the extensible 16 AWG ground-check is centered, Type G-CGC can also be connected as a standard 3-conductor Type G cable when pilot monitoring is not used.
For 2000 V variable-frequency drive (PWM inverter) trailing applications requiring an overall aluminum tape + tinned-copper braid EMC shield over a symmetrical 3-ground + center GC core, see Mining VFD Cable 2000 V (Product 5916).
