Type MV-105 Flexible Single-Conductor EPR Cable, 5 kV and 15 kV

Flexible single-conductor Type MV-105 construction with fine-stranded tinned copper, EPR insulation and a braided shield; 5 kV and 15 kV reference configurations.

Product information
Product overview

Type MV-105 flexible EPR cable in this 5 kV and 15 kV family is a single-conductor medium-voltage option for routes where installers must bend and position cable around equipment. The reference construction uses fine-stranded tinned copper, a semiconductive conductor screen, 105°C EPR insulation, an insulation-screen system with a flexible tinned-copper/nylon composite braid, and a black thermoset-elastomer jacket. Its reference data lists seven size-and-voltage configurations at a 133% insulation level.

Start selection with system voltage and the required insulation level. Then compare conductor size, outside diameter and the published free-air ampacity basis; a current rating from an isolated cable in air cannot be applied unchanged to grouped cables, ducts or a heated tray. The source gives static and dynamic bend-radius references of 6 × and 8 × cable OD respectively. The flex-friendly construction helps during handling and occasional movement, but a continuous reeling or torsion route needs a duty-specific design review.

The companion fixed-distribution Type MV-105 construction uses Class B compressed copper or aluminum and copper-tape screening with a PVC jacket. It has a different mechanical and installation brief even where both families share a voltage designation. Send the voltage, conductor size, circuit route, movement pattern, expected ambient temperature, installation method and required acceptance documentation with the RFQ so the final marked construction can be checked against the project.

Construction

The source construction is a one-core cable. A high-flex tinned-copper conductor is surrounded by a semiconductive conductor screen, 105°C EPR insulation and an insulation-screen system incorporating semiconductive material and a flexible tinned-copper/nylon composite braid. A black thermoset-elastomer jacket is the outer layer. The braid screen and fine conductor strands are the features that distinguish this design from a Class B copper-tape-screened distribution cable.

  • Conductor: fine-stranded, tinned copper.
  • Conductor screen: semiconductive tape plus extruded semiconductive elastomer.
  • Insulation: EPR, 105°C reference conductor rating.
  • Insulation screen: extruded semiconductive layer, semiconductive tape and tinned-copper/nylon composite braid.
  • Outer jacket: black thermoset elastomer.

Applications

Use the 5 kV or 15 kV flexible Type MV-105 design for medium-voltage power circuits where a fine-stranded conductor and braid shield make installation and limited movement easier. Compare it with a fixed-distribution Type MV-105 cable where the installed route remains stationary and copper-tape screening is preferred. A reeling drum, continuously twisting route or moving mining machine requires separate mechanical qualification.

For a cable-tray, duct or buried route, determine the project electrical code, protection method, moisture exposure and cable marking before finalizing a design. State the desired conductor size, termination, installation temperature and expected bend radius; the reference data gives 6 × OD static and 8 × OD dynamic bend limits.

*Reference ampacity basis: 40°C ambient, one isolated conductor in air, 105°C conductor, NEC Table 315.60(C)(3). The supplied reference gives −40°C cold and 6 × OD static / 8 × OD dynamic bend criteria; confirm these for the ordered construction. The 15 kV / 500 kcmil reference weight is 2,588 lb/1,000 ft; confirm shipping mass on the approved drawing.

Standards

The supplied reference uses the Type MV-105 designation, a 105°C conductor basis and a 133% insulation level. If the project requires FT4/IEEE 1202 flame testing, cable-tray use or direct burial, state those requirements in the procurement documents and check the ordered cable's marking and applicable test reports.
