Product overview

35-CHVU 20/35 kV Open-Pit Mining Trailing Cable

35-CHVU is a 20/35 kV trailing cable manufactured to DS 074-2004 for feeding large coal extraction machines in open-pit mines. It sits a full voltage step above the usual mine distribution range: where a 3.6/6 kV to 12/20 kV feeder ends, this is the cable that carries the supply to a dragline, shovel or large excavator at the working face.

The construction is a screened medium-voltage design with a semiconducting layer either side of the rubber insulation, a semiconducting inner sheath, and a 25 mm² concentric copper conductor before the textile tape and the outer chloroprene sheath. That concentric conductor is the earth and screen return path for the whole cable, and its rating has to be checked against the system earth-fault current, not assumed from the phase size.

  • Rated voltage: 20/35 kV; test voltage 53 kV.
  • Cross-sections: 3 × 50, 3 × 70 and 3 × 95 mm², each with 3 × 16 mm² earth and a 25 mm² concentric conductor.
  • Short-circuit temperature: +250 °C; conductor operating temperature +90 °C.
  • Duty: trailing movement, resistant to shock, pressure, abrasion and weather.

For medium-voltage mine distribution below this range see (N)TSCGEWÖU mine distribution cable, and for continuous reel duty see R-(N)TSCGEWÖU reeling cable.

Construction

35-CHVU Cable Construction

Nine-layer screened medium-voltage construction to DS 074-2004. The concentric copper conductor in position 7 is a fixed 25 mm² across all three sizes.

Conductor shape is RF. In the size table the abbreviation konc. denotes the concentric conductor, so 3 × 50 + 3 × 16 + 25 konc. means three 50 mm² phase cores, three 16 mm² earth cores and the 25 mm² concentric conductor.

Applications

35-CHVU Applications

35-CHVU is a trailing flexible cable for feeding large coal extraction machines used in open-pit mines. The cable is sufficiently resistant to shock, pressure, abrasion and weather for surface working conditions.

  • 20/35 kV supply to draglines, shovels and large excavators at the working face.
  • Trailing routes along benches where the cable is dragged and repositioned as the machine advances.
  • Surface installations exposed to weather, abrasion, pressure and impact.
  • Feeds where supply distance and voltage drop make 20/35 kV the correct system voltage rather than a lower mine distribution level.

Application boundaries

This is a trailing construction rather than a high-speed continuous reeling cable. Where the machine uses a reel, the drum geometry, winding layers, speed and pull govern the selection. The tabulated bending radius is the minimum for the installed route.
