Product overview

Type P instrumentation cable 600 V for paired marine and offshore signal circuits where individually screened pairs and an overall shield are required. This unarmoured reference covers 20 and 18 AWG conductors. It uses stranded tinned copper, Type P XLPO insulation, individually and overall shielded pairs and a flame-retardant thermosetting CPE jacket. The product data references 125°C continuous conductor operation plus resistance to oil, abrasion, moisture, vibration and sunlight.

Choose the unarmoured I/O form for protected tray or conduit routes where the project does not require metallic armor. Use the armored page when crush, impact or exposed-route protection is part of the cable schedule. Pair count, drain-wire termination, shield bonding, core identification, capacitance, loop resistance and minimum bend radius must be confirmed against the ordered datasheet rather than inferred from the family name. Installation drawings should identify each pair and drain termination.

For procurement, provide instrument type, pair count, conductor size, screen arrangement, route, ambient temperature, EMC, hazardous-area and fire requirements. Compare the armored Type P I/O cable, Type P OS signal cable and the Oil & Gas Cables range before RFQ.

Type P is the North American offshore route. Where a project specifies the British instrumentation route instead, compare BS5308 Part 1 and Part 2 instrumentation cable. The two are governed by different standards and are not interchangeable.

Applications

Applications

  • Offshore instrumentation, process monitoring, alarm and control circuits.
  • Protected marine cable-tray, module and drilling-unit routes.
  • Individually screened pairs for low-level analog, digital or process signals.
  • Overall shield for common EMC control around the instrument cable group.

Installation boundary: unarmoured cable needs an engineered protected route. Confirm intrinsic-safety segregation, shield grounding, fire requirements and hazardous-area glands before release.

Standards

Standards

  • IEEE 1580 and IEEE 45 Type P marine/offshore design references.
  • UL 1309 and applicable CSA marine cable references for the ordered construction.
  • IEEE 1202 and IEC 60332-3-22 Category A flame-propagation references where specified.
  • IEC 60092 references may be required for international shipboard projects.

Request the model-specific screen, fire, classification and inspection documents in the RFQ. Standards names are selection references, not an approval claim.
