Product overview

NSSHKCGERLOEU Armoured Coal Cutter Cable for Mobile Mining Machines

NSSHKCGERLOEU is a 0.6/1 kV armoured coal cutter cable for mobile mining machines operating under very high mechanical loads. The documented construction combines particularly fine stranded tinned-copper power conductors, heat-resistant 3GI3 EPR insulation, pilot/earth units, a conducting rubber cradle and inner sheath, taping, steel-wire braid armour and a yellow 5GM5 outer sheath.

The cable is intended for coal-cutting machines and comparable mobile equipment exposed to extreme bending, high mechanical tension, impact and squeezing. Its torsion- and tensile-stress-resistant armour, together with the flexible cable construction, also supports operation over guide pulleys or use as an LHD reeling cable. Selection must still match the machine route, cable diameter, reel or pulley geometry, bending mode, pull, terminations and pilot/earth arrangement.

  • Voltage: 0.6/1 kV.
  • Movement: static, flexing, guide-pulley or drum operation within the documented limits.
  • Mechanical focus: bending, tensile, torsional, impact and squeezing loads.

Do not substitute NSSHKCGERLOEU with a similarly named coal cutter cable without comparing the complete construction and machine duty. Review the mining and tunneling cable range and mining cable selection guide, then send the existing marking and application data for quotation review.

Where the braid sits, and why that changes the earth path

Three coal cutter designations in this family are routinely read as interchangeable because two of them are described as braided and armoured. They are not interchangeable, and the difference is not the braid itself but what the braid is for.

DesignationCentral separatorEarth conductorBraidMinimum bending radius

NSSHCGEOEU, high-tensile buildNoneThe concentric earth conductor is the braidBraided armour of combined copper-steel wires, serving as both earth conductor and tensile member2 × D static; 3 × D flexing; 4.5 × D in guide pulleys and on drums

The consequence is practical. On this cable the earth path is independent of the armour, so the armour can be sized for the mechanical duty without changing the earth arrangement. On the copper-steel build the braid is the earth conductor, so damage to the braid is damage to the earth path and the termination has to pick up the earth from the braid itself. Substituting one for the other changes the earth continuity behaviour and the termination design even where the conductor sizes match.

Compare NSSHKCGEOEU for the same saddle construction without the armour, and NSSHCGEOEU high-tensile coal cutter cable for the copper-steel braid that doubles as the earth conductor. For the low-tensile spiral-earth build see NSSHCGEOEU low-tensile coal cutter cable.

Reading the braid tensile strength

The tabulated braid tensile strength is not the permitted working pull. It is the strength of the braid itself, published as 57 kN for the 3 × 16 to 3 × 35 mm² builds and 85 kN from 3 × 50 mm² upward. Deriving an allowable operating load from it requires a safety factor, the termination design and the movement data for the route, so state the machine, the reel or pulley arrangement and the expected pull with the enquiry rather than sizing from the kN figure alone.

Why this designation is specified where the cable can be trapped

Like the unarmoured saddle build, this cable meets the requirements of draft DIN VDE 0472 Part 818, "Behaviour under Squeezing Stress": squeezing damage is detected as an earth fault with the highest achievable reliability. That detection behaviour, combined with the torsion- and tensile-resistant armour, is why the designation is chosen for routes where the cable is both pulled and at risk of being run over or crushed.

  • Guide-pulley or cable-car routes after pulley geometry and bending conditions are verified.
  • LHD reeling cable duty after reel dimensions, winding layers and tensile path are checked.
  • Routes where steel-wire braid reinforcement is required for the documented tensile and torsional duty.
  • Applications exposed to bending, impact or squeezing within the confirmed cable and installation limits.

Application boundaries

The model name does not establish automatic compatibility with every coal cutter, reel or monitoring system. Confirm the existing marking, voltage, load, core and pilot/earth arrangement, cable length, static or moving route, pulley or drum dimensions, speed, pull, reverse bending, terminations and required project documents.
