H01N2-D / H01N2-E Welding Cable 100/100 V
H01N2-D and H01N2-E are flexible single-core rubber welding cables designed to carry high current between an arc-welding power source and the electrode holder or workpiece connection. Both belong to the 100/100 V EN 50525-2-81 family. Specify H01N2-D for normal-flexibility welding cable or H01N2-E when the project requires a higher-flexibility version, then confirm the actual conductor construction in the technical quotation.
Choose the conductor cross-section according to welding current, duty cycle, total outgoing and return circuit length, ambient temperature, and acceptable voltage drop. A short intermittent-duty lead and a long continuous-duty lead may require different conductor sizes even when peak current is the same. Flexible welding cable should not be treated as general-purpose fixed power wiring solely because it has a large copper cross-section.
Final sizing must be confirmed against the cable guidance supplied by the welding-machine manufacturer.
- Typical use: Electrode leads, work-return leads, and mobile welding equipment.
- Before ordering: State current, duty cycle, length, size, terminals, flexibility grade, and environment.
- Termination check: Match lug barrels, crimp tooling, connectors, and strain relief to the fine-stranded conductor.
When the specification calls for WCT instead of the harmonized H01N2 family, compare the JIS-based WCT welding cable.
Construction
H01N2-D / H01N2-E is a flexible single-core welding cable construction. The E version uses a finer, more flexible conductor arrangement than the D version; exact strand count and finished dimensions depend on conductor size and the quoted construction.

| Element | Reference construction | Procurement relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor | Fine-stranded annealed copper; bare or tinned copper may be selected according to the agreed construction. | Confirm D- or E-type flexibility, nominal cross-section, and termination compatibility. |
| Separator | Suitable separator layer over the flexible conductor | Supports processing and movement between the conductor and covering. |
| Covering | Flexible EM5 rubber compound, typically black | Specify required oil, abrasion, flame, outdoor-use, and temperature performance. |
| Identification | Order marking to include the type, size, and required traceability | Provide target-market and project marking instructions. |
Applications
Use H01N2-D / H01N2-E in arc-welding secondary circuits where a highly flexible, high-current lead is required between the welding equipment and the electrode holder or work clamp.

- Manual electrode welding leads
- Work-return or ground-clamp leads
- Automatic welding equipment and mobile production machinery
- Replacement leads with verified H01N2-D or H01N2-E marking
Do not use a 1,000 V dielectric test value as the operating voltage: this cable family is rated 100/100 V. This page does not state suitability for fixed building wiring, battery systems, electric-vehicle charging, or unrelated power-distribution applications. Review any non-welding use against the applicable installation standard.
