WorkSafe WA guidance distinguishes trailing and reeling duties; the official NEMA/ICEA mining-cable scope covers its own standard family; and the BSI record for BS 6708 shows its current withdrawn status.

These references define their own scope; they do not prove that a proposed cable is approved or suitable for a particular mine. Verify the required edition, offered construction, marking, certificates and jurisdiction before ordering.

Price Factors and Manufacturer Review

What Determines Mining and Tunneling Cable Price?

Mining drilling and tunnelling cable price depends on more than conductor metal. The quotation is affected by voltage class, copper cross-section, core and pilot arrangement, screen or armour, jacket material, reinforcement, minimum order length, drum packing, test documents, certification scope, delivery destination and the mechanical duty. Reeling and trailing cable often require a higher mechanical specification than a fixed cable with the same conductor size.

For an apples-to-apples comparison, ask suppliers to state the published construction, voltage, conductor size, grounding or ground-check arrangement, minimum bending radius, permitted tensile load, environmental rating, test basis and documentation included. A low price without the same duty and document scope is not a like-for-like replacement.

An (N)SHÖU-O price also depends on conductor size, route duty and order length. Confirm whether the required construction is the -O version without a green/yellow protective conductor or the -J version with one before requesting a quotation.

For North American projects, compare SHD-GC cable, Type G-GC and Type W by the complete electrical and mechanical requirement. For European or international projects, provide the requested standard edition and approval scope for (N)SHOU, (N)TSCGEWOU, (N)TMCETMPU and related cable families. Final suitability depends on the equipment, route, local rules and approved project specification.

  • Rated voltage, conductor size, number of power, earth, pilot and control cores.
  • Machine type, manufacturer/model, route length and operating cycle.
  • Fixed, trailing, suspended, basket, reeling or TBM movement duty.
  • Drum diameter, winding layers, speed, pull, guide arrangement and minimum bend radius for reeling.
  • Water, mud, oil, drilling fluid, abrasion, impact, UV and temperature exposure.
  • Required standard, certificate/test report scope, quantity, packing and delivery destination.

Send your mining or tunnelling cable specification for RFQ and include the route drawing or equipment manual when available.
